The Hagerstown Herald-Mail has endorsed John Delaney for Congress.
They write:
It had been some time — two decades, in fact — since Western Maryland’s 6th Congressional District was the beneficiary of energetic representation in Congress. That changed two years ago with the election of John Delaney, an aggressive proponent of smart, problem-solving government. We endorse the Democrat in his re-election bid against Republican challenger Dan Bongino and George Gluck of the Green Party, because in one term the congressman has proved that his promise of being a new-style politician wasn’t just talk.
For example, while Republicans bemoan high corporate taxes and Democrats fret over our decrepit infrastructure, Delaney sought legislation that would address both issues by repatriating American corporate tax dollars through an incentive that would also underwrite enhancements to roads, bridges, public utilities and the power grid.
When the issue of Clear Spring flooding was too small for the state Democratic establishment to concern itself with, it was Delaney who stepped in and got the ball rolling on disaster relief. When the State of Maryland botched its rollout of federal health care, Delaney had sound advice for righting the ship without scrapping the entire system.
As a financier, Delaney is not a spendthrift. Nor is he an enemy of government — he is an enemy of bad government. Party does not seem to matter tremendously to Delaney, as he has already demonstrated an ability to work both sides of the aisle.
Rare is the politician these days who puts people above party. We believe Western Maryland has such an individual in Congress, and we urge voters to keep him there.
