Trump Irresponsibly Calls for Government Shutdown Over Border Wall Funding
FRIENDSHIP HEIGHTS, MD – Earlier today, President Trump repeatedly called for a government shutdown if Democrats do not agree to fund a border wall. Trump’s threat came during a meeting with Democratic House and Senate leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to discuss options to keep the government open and avoid a shutdown on December 21 when funding for some government agencies is set to expire.
Presidential candidate Congressman John K Delaney (MD-6) releases the following statement:
“The cavalier way the President talks about not living up to our obligations is endemic of his approach to governing. Shutting down the federal government will not only have a detrimental effect on our economy but will punish American workers during the height of the holiday season.
“President Trump clearly doesn’t want to bring people together and find common ground, he wants to continue the divisive rhetoric that has become synonymous with this administration. The President should work with Democrats to keep the government open and pass a spending bill that works for all Americans.”
