FRIENDSHIP HEIGHTS, MD – John Delaney releases the following statement:
“The discussion about socialism is a distraction. Democratic capitalism helped make us one of the strongest countries in the world, it is a marvelous innovation and job creation machine. But America’s strength also is based on our values as a moral society. That is why we must couple capitalism with strong social programs, like public education, safety net benefits, health care, appropriate regulation, and tax policy. The problem isn’t with capitalism; it is with the political system, which has not updated our social programs and the basic social compact in society to prepare our citizens for both change and the disruptive effect of capitalism.
“I don’t believe that Americans want socialism and I don’t believe that socialism is the answer. Democrats will make a big mistake if we campaign on a policy that people don’t want. Trump wants this campaign to be about socialism and we shouldn’t give him what he wants. We need to update our social programs to better fit today’s world, and we need to make capitalism more just and inclusive. That’s what my campaign is about.”
