Delaney Statement on Firing of Attorney General Jeff Sessions
WASHINGTON – On Wednesday, at President Trump’s request, Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned. In 2017, Sessions recused himself from investigations into Russian interference with U.S. elections, a decision that was widely reported to have infuriated the White House.
Congressman John K. Delaney (MD-6) releases the following statement:
“We should all be worried about what happens next. The irony is that Attorney General Sessions was a faithful executor of the President’s hardline agenda, but clearly, the President has his eye on other matters. While it is obviously insulting to the American people to make this major move hours after the polls have closed, it is even more insulting to take actions that undermine the rule of law. Congress must make it clear that the Special Counsel’s investigation must continue and must be completed.”
