Road Report: It’s Still Cold Edition

John met with Poweshiek County Democrats at a local diner, entrepreneurs at a startup accelerator in Cedar Rapids, and opened a field office in Waterloo.

We just wrapped up the grand opening of our sixth Iowa office, located in the historic River Plaza building in downtown Waterloo.

We began the day at the West Side Family Restaurant in Grinnell, speaking to a couple dozen members of the Poweshiek County Democrats over eggs and hash browns. John answered questions on climate change (he’s against it!), raising the minimum wage (he’s for it!), and who he’d ask to serve in his cabinet.

Then it was off to Cedar Rapids to speak to an entrepreneurs luncheon at a startup incubator. The NewBo district of Cedar Rapids was designated an Opportunity Zone in 2017.

Opportunity Zones are low income census tracts nominated by governors and certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury into which investors can now put capital to work financing new projects and enterprises in exchange for certain federal capital gains tax advantages. The country now has over 8,700 Opportunity Zones in every state and territory.

One of the original co-sponsors of the bill that first mentioned opportunity zones? Yeah, that’s our guy.

From there we made our way to the aforementioned office opening in Waterloo. The room was packed and hot but that didn’t stop these hardcore caucus goers from grilling John on climate change, gun control, re-establishing trust with our citizens and with the press, and more.

A packed day that you can enjoy with our photo slideshow below.
