The Frederick News-Post has offered praise for John Delaney’s election reform platform, which includes: open primaries so independents can vote, redistricting reform, and making Election Day a holiday.

Here’s part of what the paper had to say:

U.S. Rep. John Delaney’s bill to reform the country’s laws for electing members of the House of Representatives is a welcome message for a country with a growing number of unaffiliated voters tired of partisan gridlock. He filed the bill this past week.

Two of the proposed legislation’s three prongs will be familiar to anyone who’s been a diligent reader of The Frederick News-Post’s opinion page: open primaries and redistricting reform. The third is a new one, but it makes a lot of sense: Make Election Day a holiday.

“Congress is broken,” Delaney said in a statement. “The American people are frustrated because the common good of the country isn’t being served. An electoral system that rewards extreme partisanship, is warped by gerrymandering, and features low turnout elections produces a House of Representatives that doesn’t live up to its name.”
